Rainy Day of Coalville

Yesterday we were playing ball. Sometimes when I can see she is getting tired and I know I am tired I will throw the ball in a “secret place” which takes her a while to find. it is kind of like a year round Easter Egg hunt using the BALL. Its a really fun game and we love it.

However, Rainy was taking an unusually long time finding the ball until I could hear her jingle jingle of her collar and in she trots in so proud…I FOUND IT MOM!! However I had to do a double take because something looked off……

Oh Yes…it must be the COAL that is all over her face!!

I just love this dog…she is just so cute…even with coal all over her face.

She is Such a Stinker!!!

Today my husband and I took Rainy on a morning walk to Echo Lake. I begged him to take a few minutes away from our remodeling and walk with Rainy and I. She was so  excited to be walking with the both of us….a special occasion indeed!!

So we drive over to the lake as we wrestle her to the back seat and she fights to try and drive, we park and off she goes like a bullet. We are having a nice walk when she spots the water down a deep incline and off she goes down to the water but WAIT!!!>>>>>she spots something dead and stinky and of course she has to roll. We are yelling and shouting expletives but we are too far away….she knows she is safe from our anger. We fall and roll down the rocky hill to get to her before the damage is done but we are just too late. By the time we are close enough she takes off again and we can see the rotten, dead fishy ooze that is dripping from her side and ear. There is nothing left to do but grab  the dreaded stick and get her to get in the water.  You know how i feel about sticks but this was a state of emergency.

Oh No!!!

Oh No!!!

Its too late!!!

Its too late!!!

That is a stick...not a knife!!! I promise

That is a stick…not a knife!!! I promise

At last we are playing stick!!!

At last we are playing stick!!!

For 15 solid minutes my husband threw the stick and she chased it into the water.

She was like a crazed wild animal….so intense was her need to run and play.

Look at those crazy eyes!!

Look at those crazy eyes!!

and again

and again

Where did it go??

Where did it go??

another round

another round

So serious

So serious

After we saw the ooze has been washed away we watched her chase the stick. The bottom dropped off quickly so she was having to swim right when she got in. She developed an interesting techniques of jumping off the shelf bottom and leaping for the stick then swimming back

a leap

and down she goes

and down she goes

another leap

and down she goes again

and down she goes again

WAIT!! Where are you going dad??

WAIT!! Where are you going dad??over and over and over again.

In the end she still smelled like dead fish but at least we got her home without killing her with our bare hands!!

A Morning Walk…

Rainy and I decided to take a break from the constant remodeling and take a walk on the Rail Trail this morning. I brought my camera and was thinking so much occurs on our walks that I need to record on film and then write about so I can always remember these peaceful and yet fun times we have together.

Right off the bat there was high drama occurring when we started. It was the Magpies. They must have had a nest near by because they were not happy at Rainy’s visit to their neck of the woods and didn’t mind telling her about it for the first mile of our walk. They bounced back and forth on the trail trying to keep Rainy’s attention focused on them rather than their nest. I love Magpies. They have so much moxy and love to torment dogs. But I think in this case they saw her as the tormentor.

Then we noticed a horse. These horse creatures are perplexing to Rainy. She is just not too sure what they are but she gives them a wide berth which is probably best. I am just curious to see how she will react when Rosie comes home to live in our back yard.

Right then a flock of birds startled Rainy as they flew to the trees and watched her watch them.

We then just ran around and sniffed until we came across a field of goats. These too are a bit odd and better left alone. At that point her tongue was hanging down to her knees and we wrapped things up. It was a beautiful morning and I was in great company with Rainy, Magpie, horse and goats. I wonder what we will discover tomorrow?

Rainy’s New Friend

There have been many dogs stopping by to say hello. So far she has liked Abby the Aussie and she was Rainy’s favorite until this big fellow came to call and she became one smitten kitten.

I saw him on the other side of the fence and not wearing my glasses I began to chastise him thinking he was Rainy until I looked down and saw she was right next to me (sorry Rainy). She ran over and it was like the famous beach scene where the two lovers run towards each other for that long anticipated embrace.

She invited him over and after the obligatory butt sniffing they decided to play.

Unfortunately he is younger, leaner and faster but she doesn’t care…..

and did I mention he is magnificent???

I don’t know his name and I don’t know where he lives but I hope to find out. It would be  shame if he was just a ship in the night….

or a ghost….

I called the animal clinic that was on his rabies tag and they said his name is Rusty and he lives in Wanship which is a significant hike from here….so we are waiting on his parents to call back….
